This is the module listing and description for the Acupuncture Business Planning & Purpose course. This course is part of the Whole Life Practitioner acupuncture business training.
Module 1 – Orientation
The goal of this module is to give you the foundational symbolic and systems information you need to think through important issues in business visioning and business planning. I cover the symbolism of Fire, Imperial Fire, the Heart and the Horse. I finish up with a visit back to the executive system, with a focus on what it means to be sovereign in our kind of business.
Module 2 – Becoming Sovereign
Here I embrace the symbols and the message of the Heart fully. Here we talk about your life and your goals for yourself and your professional career. You want to make sure you don’t build a big, beautiful acupuncture business empire in the big city only to find that what you really always needed was a little practice in a mountain town. We address two common saboteurs on our path to sovereignity – Imposter syndrome and the Dunning-Kruger effect.
Module 3 – Business Lifecycle
The third module is the shortest and most focused, here, building on what I discussed about sovereignity and leadership in acupuncture businesses, we think about the inevitable death of our practice. What’s the endgame? Without considering the natural birth growth and death cycle of a business, we can’t plan very well.
Module 4 – Business Planning Overview
Here we get an overall view of what business planning means in different contexts, and understand the difference between conventional business planning and what we’re going to be doing in this course. The bulk of this module is addressing objections to business planning that I’ve heard from students and practitioners, trying to help you remove barriers to committing whole heartedly to the work in Modules 5 & 6.
Module 5 – The Whole Life Business Plan
Here’s where it all comes together. In the fifth module, I’ll walk you step-by-step through a new take on the conventional business plan, tailored for Chinese medicine and other holistic clinic owners. You’ll use everything we’ve learned up until now to articulate your purpose, craft a compelling business vision, and then write a living, breathing business plan that can be your constant companion as your practice grows.
This is a big module that you’ll come back to again and again as you create and update your own business plan.
Module 6 – Care & Keeping of the Business Plan
Finally we’ll give a sense of the process of working with and updating a whole life business plan. As you’ll learn, business planning isn’t about the plan – but about the process. What IS that process, what are the options? What do you actually do with the plan once you have it, and why it’s worth all the work in the first place? I’ll discuss all of this and give you some examples of how I have used my own business plans to make difficult decisions, or dream a new beautiful part of my own acupuncture business.
